How Tech-Savvy Are You?

1. Your Wi-Fi suddenly stops working. What's your first move?

Check the router's lights, restart it, and maybe check network settings on my devices. Search online for "Wi-Fi troubleshooting" or call a tech-savvy friend. Turn it off and on again. If that fails, I wait or call my internet provider. Panic slightly, then hand it over to someone else to fix.

2. You hear about a new popular app. What do you do?

Download it immediately to test its features and see what the hype is about. Read reviews and tutorials, then consider downloading it if it seems useful. Only download it if a trusted friend or family member recommends it for a specific purpose. Ignore it. Another app, another complication!

3. How often do you back up your important digital files (photos, documents, etc.)?

Regularly, using cloud services, external drives, or automated backups. I know I should, and I try to do it, but sometimes forget or need a reminder. Only when prompted by my device or after a significant event (like getting a new computer). Back up? What's that?

4. Someone mentions "clearing your browser cache." What's your reaction?

"Ah, yes, for better performance and privacy!" (And I know how to do it). "Interesting, I'll look into what that means and if I need to do it." "Sounds technical. I'll just restart my browser if it's slow." "That sounds like something that could break my computer."

5. How confident are you about identifying a phishing email?

Very confident. I check sender addresses, suspicious links, and grammar. Fairly confident. I'm aware of the risks and look for red flags, but might second-guess. I'd be cautious, but I might click if it looks urgent or convincing. What's phishing? If it's from a known company, I'd probably trust it.

6. Do you use keyboard shortcuts to speed up your work?

Constantly! Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, Alt+Tab are second nature, and I know many more. Sometimes, I know a few basic ones and am trying to learn more. Only if I happen to accidentally press them, otherwise I use the mouse. I find them confusing and prefer clicking.

7. A new version of your operating system (Windows, macOS, Android, iOS) is released. What's your response?

I'm excited! I'll read about the new features and update as soon as it's stable. I'll wait a bit to see if there are any major bugs, then update to explore the changes. I only update when my device forces me to or if an app requires it. I avoid updates; they always seem to change things I'm comfortable with.

8. How comfortable are you with customizing your smartphone or computer settings?

Very. I tweak settings for optimal performance, privacy, and personalization. Moderately. I'll venture into settings if there's a specific goal or problem I need to solve. Only for basic things like wallpaper or ringtone. I avoid deeper settings. I try not to touch anything beyond the main screen.

9. What's your general approach to solving a tech problem?

I start by isolating the problem, researching solutions, and trying common fixes myself. I try basic restarts, then I'm quick to use online resources like YouTube tutorials or forums. I ask someone knowledgeable in my immediate circle or contact support if it's important. I hope it fixes itself, or I just deal with it being broken.

10. What role does "smart home" technology (e.g., smart speakers, smart lights) play in your life?

My home is practically automated! I love integrating new devices. I have a few devices and am interested in expanding, learning as I go. I might have one or two simple smart devices, mainly for convenience. I prefer traditional appliances; smart homes seem too complicated or intrusive.
